When the Iron Curtain fell, the suppressed people of the vast country of Russia, which covers 11 time zones, began to express their hunger to know the living God. In the city of St. Petersburg, which is recognized throughout the world as the arts capital for Russia and the entire region, a young pastor was praying for God to restore Christianity, its traditions and practices to his nation.

Cana Wedding in Russian version of The Play

Following the leading of the Holy Spirit, in September 1997 TMCJ staff members traveled to St. Petersburg, seeking to locate a group of artists interested in using the arts for evangelism. Through a divine encounter with this young pastor, the Russian version of The Play was birthed.  In December of that same year, TMCJ trained the people from his congregation to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the dramatic arts!

Since that time, under the leadership of a very talented and gifted young artist, Irina Postuhova, the amazing story of Jesus Christ has been presented annually at Christmas time to untold numbers of people – including many in orphanages and schools in St. Petersburg and surrounding regions.  God has used Irina to train other TMCJ teams throughout the former Soviet Union in the cities of Pushkin, Korelia and NovGorod.
